The Mett Show

As everyone has heard the Titans have tabbed Zach Mettenberger as the starter to face the Texans on Sunday. As you can probably tell from my last post I think this may be premature. But also stemming from my last post now is ZM's Golden Opportunity. The Titans need a spirited leader, plain and simple. Look at all of the great QBs, a lot of them have that crazy competitiveness and raw passion. The one thing I want to see as a Titan fan is Mettenberger embrace the leadership  role and take this team by storm.

Zach has everything the a prototypical QB exhibits, size, arm, and beard, okay the beard isn't a requirement but it is pretty awesome. He showed great promise at LSU but due to a suspension and a knee injury he slipped to the 6th round.I do believe in Zach but I think it could be scary having his first game as a pro against JJ Watt and possibly Clowney. He is an immobile QB who will have a great front seven attacking him at all times. Hopefully he isn't skiddish in the pocket and trying to protect his knee.

The game plan should be to get the ball in our play-makers
hands quick while sprinkling in some deep shots especially to Hunter. If Zach can make some big throws down the field he can gain the support of our weapons and our offense could explode. Whiz loves these types of QBs. He always wants the prototypical QB and while I have my reservations I see the potential.

My theory has always been if you can't protect the QB then get a mobile QB until you can sure up the O-Line. The biggest challenge will be for the offensive line (that we spent millions on) to keep Zach on his feet allowing him to use his deep ball throwing skills. If we can do this, who knows, maybe we have the next Brady! (wishful thinking)

There have been rumors that say Whiz and Locker have a "rift" and haven't talked since the browns game. I am skeptical about the truth of these rumors. If they are true though, Whiz is an a-hole, and his future with the players will not be good. Let's hope it isn't true because we will have some serious problems in the future.

  2. I think the real truth of all of this, is that Lewan/Mett were Whisenhunt's guys all along. Hence the conservative and predictable play calling from Whiz. Locker was supposed to prove he could fit Whiz's playbook, not the other way around, and Locker didn't and was also injury prone and was given go to plays that are easily readable and percentage based.

When Lewan started emerging as a leader, that was a telling sign of the coming Mett era. You see, Lewan is the real star here, he is the reason Mett is starting against Watt on Sunday. Lewan's advancement and emerging leadership is why Mett is starting. Lewan is the counterbalance to Watt. Even if Clowney plays, this is a perfect test for Mett and Lewan. If they gel(which I believe they will), you will see a huge mismatch in scoring during this game.

I would almost bet we score 30-40 points easily, and beat Houston by double digits. This was always possible, just not with Locker or the play calling when Locker was in there. Mett is where Whisenhunt's playbook will shine, Whisenhunt was playing a game the whole time to get his way, and now we will truly see what Whiz has to offer. this will be his game with his two handpicked guys.

I have watched my Titans since the beginning and I know football pretty well, and my gut knows what's about to happen. This is the Mettenlewanwhisenburger era!

  3. That is a really good theory. I honestly never thought about it that way. I was thinking along the same way with ZM. I felt as though the managment told Whiz to give Locker a chance and now he's like well I did now its my turn. But I do agree with the Taylor Lewan idea. What about Bishop Sankey? Isn't that Whiz's guy but his PT has been weird. I hope so. I really like Mett and I do believe he has a chance. Hope he becomes a franchise guy because I don't really believe in the QB draft class next year.

  4. I totally agree with next years QB class, people keep saying it's loaded with blue chips but I just don't see it, not for players that will fit an NFL scheme. I loved Mett in preseason, and I really thought we would see a QB battle for a starter, however I feel that Locker's character and closeness with the owner was the reason Locker was our starter at all. That's why I strongly feel that the play calling was the way it was, and why people were angry and scratching their heads the whole time. It was because nothing was designed for Locker to excel, nor was it even thought about by this coaching staff. They wanted Locker to adapt to them, and gave him no olive branches, he would have had to play above his means and evolve. He's just not capable of that and Whiz knew this, but if Whiz was wrong then we'd have a great QB in Locker, one that would be a true franchise QB.

People wanted Whiz fired after losing a few games, but true fans like us knew this was a rebuilding year. Some people still hate Whiz, but I love his strategy. He is accelerating a process that normally takes about a year to a year and a half, that's time the fans cant stomach at this point. He is now giving us hope again, and that's what we need...That and a leader. I think Lewan and Mett will be great leaders. Mett even shaved his beard and went with the stache, to look authoritative. He is taking control. I'm going to throw this out there, 300yds passing with 3 tds for Mett.

And to address Sankey, I don't think Whiz understands the RB mindset. RB by committee doesn't work in the NFL, it's all about getting into a rhythm. Whiz can't grasp this, but he listened to people around him and took a great blue chip prospect in Sankey. This isn't a bad thing, but I don't think Sankey will make an impact in this offense. He will probably be used to run the clock out and we won't see him at the goal line until next year. It's a waste really, but right now our coaching staff isn't where it needs to be to utilize Sankey. They are QB minded all the way. But that may change as the scoring goes up.

  5. Yeah. If Whiz can accelerate the rebuilding process we will be happy in the long run. Who knows maybe Mett and Luck will turn into the next Manning Brady rivalry. Wouldn't that be amazing. Very optimistic thinking. I think Whiz doesn't know how to utilize sankey because when he thinks speed and pass catching he likes Dexter and when he thinks power he likes Greene or Battle. I really hope your right and Mett starts a new era on Sunday.
